FRINTON and Walton swimming pool’s “grotty” changing rooms could be in line for a long-awaited £200,000 overhaul.
The cash could pay for upgraded changing rooms – and proposals for a new fitness suite, it has been revealed.
Tendring Council leader Mick Page has promised the cash as part of a scheme to upgrade leisure facilities in Walton and Dovercourt.
A feasibility study will be carried out, which will also look at ideas for a gym.
“I want the officers to look into the business case of expanding the building to include a fitness suite,” he said.
“I am asking them to report back on the various options as soon as possible.”
Mayor Iris Johnson welcomed the move, but called for even more cash.
She said: “The changing rooms are in an appalling state. They are pretty grotty - I used to take my grandson there, but we haven’t been down for a while.
“We have been waiting for work to take place for a very long time, but with so many changes over the past three years to the council, nothing has been done."
