A TRIBUTE band formed after a teenage boy was inspired by one of the most influential guitarists of all time is coming to Clacton.
Classic Clapton was formed after lead singer Mike Hall saw Cream playing in his hometown of Newcastle in 1967.
When he went back to school he formed a cover band.
They split up but after once again being stirred by ‘Slowhand’ at Live Aid in 1985, today’s version of the band was formed.
“Eric Clapton is a real inspiration and I couldn’t believe how good he was nearly 20 years apart,” said Mike.
He is looking forward to the band’s first visit to Clacton.
“The closest we have ever been is a gig in Thorpe-le-Soken about ten years ago but we have performed in some wonderful places around the world,” he said.
Classic Clapton is at the West Cliff Theatre on March 7 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18 (£16.50 concessions) on 01255 433344.
