POLICE officers in Essex could soon have their own personal CCTV.
About £750,000 is being invested in extra body-cams.
Essex Police is already leading a trial into using body-cams at domestic violence incidents.
If it proves successful the cameras could be rolled out and used during operations and incidents.
The cameras could provide crucial evidence during ongoing incidents.
The Home Office has awarded the force £440,000 with Essex and Kent Police each putting in £147,000 each themselves.
Charles Garbett, treasurer for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “Essex Police is committed to ensuring technology is used innovatively and appropriately to gather evidence and help reduce crime."
The domestic violence body-cam trial began last month, with 80 officers given the cameras.
Chief Insp Nick Lee said: “We want to find out if video evidence will lead to more convictions for domestic violence and, in particular, in cases where victims are too frighten to give evidence themselves."
