CONCERNED residents have voiced fears over a proposed change to Walton Mere in Tendring Council’s local plan.
The local plan maps out how the district will be developed over the next 15 years.
But residents have hit out at the latest planned amendments to the blueprint.
Walton Mere is earmarked for leisure, recreation and tourism use.
And in the latest local plan amendment, Tendring Council wants to remove the wildlife site notation from the Mere.
Nearby residents say the Mere is an important site for wildlife and that should remain a consideration.
A spokesman for residents from Mill Lane, Saville Street and Walton Conservation Group said: “We are very concerned. It is an unprecedented change that has no justification.
“The Environment Agency talks about the Mere site as a wildlife area and say that any developments there should enhance rather than damage this valuable habitat. It should be protected."
