So what do the finance department actually do all year if outsiders are running the county?

Is anyone really even mildly surprised by this news? I don't think so. Will any of the consultations do Colchester the slightest bit of good? I don't think so. Why are we still governed by ECC when our wonderful old town is being turned into a third world dump by a lack of essential maintenance and infrastructure investment? Hopefully our Conservative County Councillors will explain this to us in due course if they don't disappear down one of the numerous potholes on their increasingly rare visits to the town.

And how much did they spend on the 'desktop' audits of schools they are targetting rather than actually sending their staff out to visit the schools and try and work out why they are not performing rather than looking at a load of statistics.

I thought the council employed properly trained and educated people with the correct qualifications to run things so there is no need for consultants to be called in to tell those doing the job how to do it, is there? I wonder if backhanders and other incentives were made available to some parties to call in these "consultants". Time to make the council and councillors accountable for n ot running things properly.
