A HANDYMAN from Little Clacton helped to raise more than £1,000 for a cancer charity by having his ponytail chopped off.

Mark Gentry lose his 15-inch locks to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The big snip took place during a charity fundraiser at the Blacksmiths Arms, Little Clacton.

Barmaid and organiser Fiona White said a grand total of £1,143 was raised on the day, including £70 collected in a bucket by ten-year-old Engaines Primary School pupil Wren Symes, who’s mum and dad David and Melanie run the pub.

She thanked all those who donated cash as well as local businesses who donated raffle prizes.
