A BRIGHTLINGSEA football club snapped up a new 100-seater stand for fans – from auction website Ebay.

Non-league side Brightlingsea Regent FC paid out £5,500 for the stand after spotting it online.

And club volunteers had to drive to the Isle of Wight to pick up the new stadium showpiece.

It was dismantled for the club to load into a lorry and complete the mammoth drive back to Brightlingsea.

They got home on Friday evening and were met by a group of 15 volunteers, who helped unload the stand piece by piece and get to work putting it back together.

The club managed to put the new 107-seater stand together in time for their high-profile FA Vase clash on Saturday.

Brightlingsea Regent FC chairman Terry Doherty said: “A lot of the money came from our FA Vase run where we have got through five rounds so far, as well as sponsorships and our own fundraising events.

“We’re delighted and it is a massive boost for the club."

The stand has only been used once before, at a tennis tournament on the island.

Before the purchase, Brightlingsea’s North Road stadium had a 50 seat stand and standing room.

After earning promotion to the Thurlow Nunn Premier division, league regulations required them to have a total of 100 seats in place by the end of March.
