A YEAR after being handed cash to improve recycling, environment bosses claim people are getting the message.

Tendring was handed £624,000 from the Government in a bid to improve recycling in the district.

The district was one of 90 to get a slice of the £250million pot of cash, which is being used to back schemes to support weekly waste collections

As part of the project, Tendring Council launched a promotional campaign aimed at increasing participation in recycling.

The cash is being used for additional recycling bins for flats, as well as supporting weekly residual waste and food waste collections.

Recycling roadshows take place at Tesco at Brook Retail Park today from 10am to 3pm and at the Triangle Shopping Centre in Frinton on January 23 at the same time.

The aim of the events is to raise awareness about recycling and to encourage residents to get involved.

The roadshows are the latest initiative to take place around the district designed increase recycling and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Nick Turner, cabinet member for the environment, said the roadshows always prove popular and usually attract a good turnout.

“We like to ask and offer, not tell and demand and these events are an opportunity to engage with our residents and encourage them to feel good about recycling,” he said.

“Officers will be on hand to discuss a wide range of issues with people and answer their questions.”
