STUDENTS are celebrating the opening of a new sixth form centre at Clacton Coastal Academy.

The launch of the refurbished centre completes the move of all students to the Pathfields Road site following the merger of Colbayns and Bishop’s Park College in 2009.

The Bishop’s Park site is now home to the Tendring Studio School which bridges the gap between education and work.

Academy principal Tracey Hemming said: “It is our aim to provide students with the curriculum, support and ambition needed to meet and exceed expectations.

“With sixth form students back on our main site, we look forward to their impact as role models and as learning ambassadors in their specialist subjects to the younger students at the academy.”

The two-storey sixth form block boasts facilities including a common room, canteen and study area.

Mrs Hemming said the modern environment would help improve the sixth form standards which were praised by education watchdog Ofsted this week.

The centre was officially opened by Labour general election hopeful Tim Young.
