CLACTON’S Sea Cadets have been hailed as the most improved unit in the country.
The captain of the Sea Cadet Corps has selected Clacton’s unit to be awarded the Training Ship Indefatigable trophy.
The trophy goes to the unit which made the most significant improvement over the year.
Petty officer Ben Chandler, the officer in charge of the unit, said cadets and staff in the town had shown determination and teamwork to gain the award, as well as performing well at competitions.
"I am very proud of what the unit has achieved over the last year,” he said.
“This has only been possible because all staff and cadets have jumped on board with the progress of the unit.
“Last year was a great success and will always be remembered as the year that turned Clacton Sea Cadets around. This year promises to be even better for us all."
The Sea Cadets’ diary is already busy with action-packed activities for the year, including windsurfing in Scotland, a week on board the square-rigged sailing ship TS Royalist and a south coast voyage on the TS Jack Petchey.
