A MAN is due to appear in court today accused of murdering Clacton teenager Jay Whiston.

Edward Redman, 18, of Halstead Road, Eight Ash Green, is alleged to have murdered 17-year-old Jay during a party at a house in Colchester on September 8, 2012.

He denies the charge.

Paramedics called to the scene in Marlowe Way, Lexden, tried to save the teenager's life before taking him to Colchester General Hospital where he later died.

A post-mortem examination revealed the teenager from Aster Close, Clacton, died from a stab wound.

The trial may last up to ten weeks.

A panel of jurors will be selected, followed by legal argument before barrister Mark Milliken-Smith QC opens the case for the prosecution at Chelmsford Crown Court..

A visit to the scene of the alleged murder by the jury will take place in the early stages of the trial.

More than 30 witnesses are likely to be called to give evidence during the case.

Redman is currently in custody.
