BENEFIT fraudsters in Tendring are being warned they face fines totalling thousands of pounds if they make false claims
Town Hall bosses are clamping down on those who claim cash they are not entitled to.
They are warning residents who are claiming benefits to ensure they notify the council of any changes in circumstances – or face the consequences in court.
The warning comes as two people were successfully prosecuted by Tendring Council at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Paul Honeywood, the council’s interim leader, said: “It is absolutely essential that anyone claiming benefits let us know about all income receive and if there any changes to it – they sign up to declare that information when making the claim.
“Failure to do so can end up with an appearance before the courts as we will not hesitate to prosecute where there is the evidence to do so."
