FUNDRAISERS are celebrating after reaching their target to safeguard the future of a vital community hall.

McGrigor Hall in Fourth Avenue, Frinton, needs a major floor revamp to prevent it becoming unusable.

Damp is seeping into the wooden block flooring, which has been in place since the hall was built in 1934, causing the blocks to become loose and uneven.

The committee running the hall decided to take action before it became a safety hazard and have now raised the £18,000 needed for a new floor.

They received thousands of pounds in grant cash through Essex County Council trusts.

Hundreds of pounds were donated by residents after an article appeared in the Gazette, while a fundraising stage show and carol reading helped top up the cashpot.

A new floor will now be installed over the Christmas period.

Fundraising secretary for the hall, Ann Tooby said: “We’ve raised all of the money we need right on schedule so we can get on with getting a new floor in place.

“It is really fantastic news for us. We are absolutely delighted."

Work is set to be completed by February 1.
