THE site of a former children’s home in Clacton is to be transformed into 16 new homes.

The Limbourne House site, in Windsor Avenue, has faced an uncertain future since Essex County Council closed the home in 2007.

The property became derelict and was eventually demolished.

Three years ago planning permission was given for a three-storey, 61-bedroom care home, but the work never started.

Chelmsford-based charitable housing association CHP has now been given the go-ahead to build 16 terrace homes,

Agent Mike Gray said: “In this day and age, we regularly hear about the need for more affordable housing and this project represents an important investment in Clacton and opportunity for local people to rent a brand new home.”

“The work will get underway in the New Year and should be completed in December 2014.”
