TENDRING Council has praised a top team effort during last week's tidal surge evacuation.

The council organised a rest centre at Clacton County High School to house evacuees overnight, and praised staff for their actions through the flood alert.

June Clare from Tendring Council said: “The school called their catering team back in during the evening to ensure that all those at the centre were supplied with a hot meal and they were back in at 6am to provide a hot breakfast.

“Nothing was too much trouble and their staff that were at the site chipped in to help make it a more pleasurable experience for the evacuees.”

Mrs Clare also thanked the Red Cross, Essex Adult Care, paramedics, other medical staff, and the Police who were working at the site, as well as the Tendring Council staff members who pitched in through the night.

She added: “It was certainly very reassuring for us that our well-rehearsed plans proved to be very effective and thankfully the eventual impact of the weather was much less severe than it could have been.”
