SANTA will parade down Frinton’s famous Connaught Avenue to launch the town’s festive late-night shopping event.

The avenue will be closed off on Friday for the Christmas spectacular.

Organised by the chamber of commerce, the annual event has been set up to help traders, bring families out in force and launch Christmas in Frinton.

Shops will stay open late into the evening, and Connaught Avenue will be filled with entertainment acts to bring in the crowds.

The main draw will be Santa Claus, who will arrive with his helpers at 6pm and parade down the road to a grotto, set up in Fowler’s Arcade.

Youngsters will be able to visit, pick up a present and post their Christmas letters at a special post box.

Music will be playing throughout the evening, with a variety of bands and singers performing.

There will also be performances from dance and theatre groups, as well as fairground rides for youngsters, roasted chestnuts, barbecues and other refreshments.

Chamber of commerce chairman Wendy Simon said: “This year’s event should be bigger and better than ever.

“All the traders are getting involved and there should be a great atmosphere.

“We’ve got a lot going on so it should be the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.”
