TOWN councillors said they were shocked at the level of damage caused in the car attack rampage.

Nearly 40 cars were scratched by a vandal in a one-night crime spree across Frinton and Walton.

And councillors have called on local police to communicate more with the council to help cut down on crime.

Vanda Watling said: “I found out about this through Facebook. So many people were targeted and some said they wouldn’t bother reporting it, so the real number is likely bigger.

“It is a horrible thing to happen for our residents.

“I spoke to the police and they described it as a one off, but I don’t feel like it is a one off when 40 cars have been scratched up.

“This needs to be taken seriously.”

And Nick Turner said: “I want to see police communicating more and giving information about these incidents to the wards councillors.

“Recently we have had some major incidents happen and we have not known about them.

“We have had a quarter of our police force removed with no sign of replacements and I am incensed I did not know about these incidents.

“We need to be told so we can help our residents to the best of our abilities.”
