TOWN councillors turned down plans for a major solar farm development between Little Clacton and Great Holland.

An application was launched by Colchester company Push Energy to cover a section of Sladburys Farm with solar panels.

It includes installing 46,000 panels on the site to create enough energy to power 2,700 homes.

But Frinton and Walton Town councillors recommended refusal of the scheme.

Councillor Mark Cossens said: “The quality of land in Tendring is incredibly good and I think it would be of better use remaining as farm land.

“I think there are better ways for us to cut our carbon footprint while making use of prime farming land.

“It is a beautiful area too, and this is not the sort of change I would like to see.”

Sladburys Farm is in Clacton, but the land extends into Great Holland.

Tendring Council will have the final say on the proposal.
