Clacton Air Show named the best event in Essex
12:00pm Saturday 2nd November 2013 in News
CLACTON’S flagship air show showcase has been named the best event in the whole of Essex for 2013.
The air show claimed the top gong at the Essex Tourism and Hospitality Awards.
After being nominated for the awards for the first time, the air show was shortlisted in the Best Event or Festival category.
Its rivals for the top prize included the Chelmsford-based Fright Night event, but Clacton’s aerial spectacular was hailed as the top draw.
The air show is run every year by Tendring Council and is now almost at the point of being self-funding, with a minimal cost to taxpayers.
It brings huge crowd-pleasers to the Clacton skies, including the Vulcan and the Red Arrows.
Council tourism boss Alan Goggin collected the award at the special ceremony in Chelmsford.
He said: “What an accolade for the air show and the team at the council that runs it – simply the best in Essex.
“I know it’s the best, but it is fantastic to have that fact recognised by others in this way by winning this prestigious award.”
Following the award win Clacton Air Show will now be put forward to represent Essex in the national 2014 Visit England Awards for Excellence.
