Walton: Poppy shop to boost the troops
4:00pm Friday 1st November 2013 in News
A POP-UP poppy shop manned by volunteers is up and running in Walton.
The shop was set up by the local Royal British Legion branch to boost funds for the annual poppy appeal.
It has been set up in a High Street store, normally used by Naze Marine Holiday Park as an information centre.
People can pick up poppies or wreaths at the store, which is open 10am-4pm every day.
Organiser John Halls said: “It has already been very well supported with lots of people coming in.
“The volunteers are doing a magnificent job and everyone is doing their bit.”
Cash from the poppy appeal goes toward helping troops and military families, teaching youngsters about the meaning behind the remembrance tradition and boosting veterans.
