Clacton: Carnival donates thousands after successful year
10:00am Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
CLACTON’S carnival association dished out thousands of pounds to local charities after a successful week of spectacular events.
The town’s carnival week took place in August, bringing the town together for a host of colourful events – including an impressive parade.
And organisers have now dished out donations totalling £11,329.50 to local charities from the proceeds.
More than 40 charities received a cheque from the carnival association.
The Cadows occupational workshop centre in Clacton, used by Essex Sight, was picked as the main charity to benefit from the procession proceeds.
Carnival association chairman Paul Townend said: “The Clacton Carnival Association has just celebrated its 60th anniversary and I am delighted we are able to give so much money to so many worthy causes.
“I would like to thank all the committee members for their hard work and all the sponsors and organisations for their continuous support of the carnival activities."
Presentations were also made to two retiring committee members.
Charles Day is retiring after more than 40 years on the committee and has been made an honorary vice president, while Larraine Rayment has been a committee stalwart since 1999.
