Tributes to community spirited Pearl

TRIBUTES have been paid to a former guide captain and village historian known for her dedication to her home parish.
Pearl Lonsdale, was known for her service to the village of Thorpe - she even has a road named after her in the village, Lonsdale Road.
In 1958 she became captain of the Girls guides, a role she kept for nearly 30 years.
Jane Rogers first met Pearl when she attended the group and then went on to be a leader herself.
“A learnt an awful lot from her,” she said.
“She was a very good influence in me and many other young women, she was quite an inspirational character."
In 1989 Pearl became a village recorder and historian.
She also assisted in various other village activities including the carnival procession.
Pearl passed away in her sleep on September 24 aged 90.
She leaves a son, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and on great great grandchild.
