Frinton: Retirement flat plans labelled a "gross overdevelopment"
4:00pm Monday 28th October 2013 in News
PLANS for a block of retirement flats near Frinton seafront have been knocked back by town councillors.
The proposed 14 later living retirement apartments in Raglan Road were dubbed a “gross overdevelopment” by members of Frinton and Walton Town Council.
The site once housed St Joseph’s Convent.
Developers McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd already have planning permission to build 12 flats on the plot, but they are pushing for approval to add another two.
They have already had one application rejected, and a revised version went before the town council last week.
But councillors recommended rejection again.
Vanda Watling said: “There have been a lot of objections from residents and I’m against it. I believe it is a gross overdevelopment of that site.
“There is no doubt Frinton needs something like this but it is just the wrong setting.”
A majority recommended refusal and Tendring Council will have the final say on the application.
