Clacton: New lease paves the way for £100k revamp for celebrating rugby club
12:00pm Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in News
A CLACTON sports club will press forward with plans for a £100,000 revamp after securing a new lease.
Clacton Rugby Club has grand plans for a major improvement scheme on its facilities.
The number of members at the club is soaring, and bosses want to improve the changing facilities and extend the Valley Road club house to keep up with demand.
But they were struggling to secure funding due to their expiring lease.
The club’s current 42-year lease is set to expire in 2015.
To boost the rugby club’s efforts to land a grant for the revamp, Tendring Council has handed over an early lease renewal.
The new 21-year lease secures the club’s future and means members can start chasing funding for the improvement scheme again.
Club chairman Brian White said: “You just can’t apply for grants or funding and make proper plans for the future to improve without a decent lease in place.
“We are delighted that the council has backed us by giving us the early lease renewal and we are excited to move forward with our plans.”
The rugby club has already been granted planning permission for its proposed extension and improvements to its floodlights and facilities.
