Kirby: Student midwife's fundraiser for Sri Lanka volunteer trip
10:00am Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in News
A STUDENT midwife is raising cash to travel abroad and volunteer in a Sri Lankan hospital.
Sacha Allen, 27, of Frietuna Road, Kirby Cross, plans to travel to travel to Ambalangoda in August next year.
She wants to share her experiences in the UK by volunteering at the town’s hospital, as well as learning more about how the Sri Lankans operate with limited resources and funding.
Sacha also plans to take across supplies to boost the foreign hospital.
Now in the third year of her midwifery degree, Sacha has organised a host of fundraising events to help fund the trip.
Her next event will be an all-you-can-eat night at Kirby Cross Indian Mossla on October 24.
Sacha said: “I'd like to develop my existing skills based on what they teach me, and share what I've learnt in the UK to help them."
The all-you-can-eat fundraiser will cost £15 per person. People should call the Mossla on 01255 674270 or 01255 674356 to book a table for the event.
People can find out more about the cause by searching for Send Sacha to Sri Lanka on Facebook.
Anyone who wants to donate but cannot make it to an event can do son online at sponsorcraft.com/SendSachaToSriLanka.
