Clacton: Cricket club reveals plan for £150,000 revamp
3:00pm Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
A CRICKET club is looking at a major £150,000 project to upgrade its facilities to boost the sport in Clacton.
Clacton Cricket Club, based in Vista Road, wants to increase its changing room area to allow space for female members.
Members are also hoping to upgrade the umpire’s room and extend the club’s balcony area.
Club chairman Pierre Oxley said: “There is an ever-increasing number of women looking to join the sports clubs in the area and we want to develop to make that possible.
“This is a real opportunity for us to move forward as a club.”
The club currently rents the cricket facilities from Tendring Council.
But club chiefs are now talking to the council with a view to taking over the facility permanently.
It is hoped the move will make it easier for the club to clinch the £150,000 of funding needed to make its revamp possible.
Mr Oxley said: “When it comes to applying for funding for sports clubs one of the biggest factors is having long term tenure of the facilities confirmed."
