Heart charity fundraiser launched in Frinton
3:00pm Saturday 19th October 2013 in News
A MUM who lost her son to a fatal heart condition just before his 18th birthday helped launch a new awareness campaign in Frinton.
Caroline Gard has been working with charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) since her son Andrew died of sudden heart failure in 1997.
Andrew seemed perfectly healthy before an undetected heart condition caused his death just days before his 18th birthday.
The charity has now launched a nationwide awareness campaign.
It has joined forces with McColl – a country-wide newsagent chain which owns Martin’s in Frinton’s Triangle Shopping Centre.
Over the Halloween holiday when people buy selected products at the Frinton store a percentage will be donated to CRY.
Cash raised through the scheme will help the charity provide more free heart screenings for youngsters in a bid to catch any underlying conditions before they become fatal.
Mrs Gard said: “The launch in Frinton went very well and hopefully it will raise plenty of money and awareness for the charity."
