Clacton: Lifesavers search for pier jumper
3:50pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
TWO lifeboats and a rescue helicopter were launched after reports that someone had leapt off Clacton Pier and into the sea.
Coastguards received a call just before 9pm on Tuesday reporting the possible incident.
Both of Clacton’s lifeboats were sent to the scene while the RAF Sea King chopper hovered overhead.
The units found no trace of a person in the water and questioned the informant who called it in.
After further questioning it was established that the informant had not actually seen anyone jump into the water, but had heard a splash.
The helicopter was stood down while the lifeboats and coastguards continued to search the area, but found nothing.
The call was considered a false alarm with good intent.
