Clacton: Police drove past my store during raid - and did nothing
4:00pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
A BURGLARY victim has criticised police after a cop car passed his store twice as it was raided by crooks.
Burglars smashed the front window of Essex Electronics, in Old Road, Clacton, on September 30.
They made off with a haul of laptops and cash after the early-morning raid.
After watching CCTV footage from cameras set up in his store, Essex Electronics owner Gareth Hanna has hit out at police for failing to act while the incident was ongoing.
His camera captured a police car driving past the smashed window twice while the burglary was in progress, without taking action.
Mr Hanna said: “I’m really just disgusted by the lack of common sense shown here.
“The window of the shop was broken and there was a lookout keeping watch, so it should have stuck out like a sore thumb."
Police declined to comment, saying any complaints have to go through official channels in the Professional Standards Department.
Donal O'Regan, 51, of Pier Avenue, Clacton, was arrested and charged with burglary after the crime. He has been jailed for six months. Not all of the stolen items have been recovered.
