Weeley: Station floral display destroyed by vandals
4:00pm Monday 14th October 2013 in News
A RAILWAY station’s floral display was destroyed in the latest of a string of vandal attacks.
More than 60 plants were ripped out of flowerbeds at Weeley station on last, just hours after they were planted.
Station adopter Ruth Whitworth had spent hours sprucing up the site to boost the appearance of the station approach, only to see her hard work destroyed almost immediately.
It is the fifth time the Weeley station has been targeted by vandals in recent weeks.
Ruth said: “This has happened almost daily in the last couple of weeks and it’s so disheartening.
“I’m trying to benefit the community and it is hard to understand why someone wants to destroy a garden."
The vandals scattered the torn-out plants around the station entrance.
Anyone who witnesses any anti-social behaviour around the station should report it to the British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
