Youngsters dig in for new food scheme
10:00am Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
PUPILS at a school in Clacton are taking part in a new pilot scheme to grow and cook their own food – with the surplus being handed to parents and the local community.
Alton Park Junior School is working with Tendring Council on the scheme, which is aimed at improving people’s quality of life.
Children will produce food from their own allotments which they will then cook and eat – with the surplus being handed out.
To launch the project pupils will bring in a packet of seeds and will then grow the fruit and vegetables themselves.
Tendring Council will help co-ordinate the scheme with groups such as Community Payback, to create the allotments in the school grounds.
