Frinton/Walton: Council wants say on streetlight reprieve locations
9:00am Saturday 5th October 2013 in News
POLICE have confirmed that a handful of key locations will remain lit when the lights go out in Frinton and Walton.
Essex County Council is on the verge of introducing a controversial scheme to turn out the street lights across the county to save on money and emissions.
A consultation into the scheme is currently ongoing.
If it is given the go-ahead about three quarters of Tendring’s street lights will be shut off between midnight and 5am.
But some hotspots will remain lit. At a Frinton and Walton Town Council meeting deputy mayor Jack Robertson said: “Sergeant Gerard confirmed to us that some areas will be lit, notably those areas he considers dangerous.
“This will include spots like dangerous junctions and outside pubs.”
The town council plans to contact Walton-based Sergeant Pete Gerard to discuss the areas which will stay lit.
