Clacton: Exhibition set to showcase memories for Butlin's 75th anniversary event
7:30am Friday 4th October 2013 in News
VISITORS will be able to re-live Clacton’s heyday at a special exhibition set up to celebrate the history of the town’s Butlin’s holiday camp.
More than 100 photographs and postcards will be displayed, along with badges, souvenirs and other artifacts detailing the complete history of the famous camp.
The event has been arranged by Clacton & District Local History Society to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the camp opening in the town.
The society has also created a CD for visitors to listen to containing oral memories of people who stayed or worked at the camp.
Historian Norman Jacobs said: “We thought it would be nice to mark such a significant anniversary in some way.
“Everyone who was around in Clacton when Butlin’s was open remembers it and it was a huge part of our town.
“We have already had a lot of interest in the exhibition and hope lots of people will come along to re-live those memories”
The exhibition will run from 10am-4pm on Saturday October 5 at St James’s Church Hall, with refreshments provided by the Friends of the West Cliff Theatre.
