Frinton: Sand sculptor hits out after vandals ruin masterpiece
4:00pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
A TOP sand sculptor has criticised vandals who left her latest masterpiece in ruins.
Nicola Wood visited Frinton to create a sculpture on the town’s Greensward to appear in a BBC TV show.
It was destroyed in an overnight attack just hours after it was completed.
Council staff found the ruined sculpture when they went to spray it with an agent which would have preserved it for weeks for people to enjoy.
Nicola said: “It is very annoying, especially after spending so much time on it.
“But I feel more sorry for the residents in Frinton. When it was discovered I had left to go home, and I’m used to leaving my work behind knowing they won’t last forever.
“If the elements don’t bring it down then it is eventually broken up anyway, but this is really horrible to hear about."
Tendring Council said it is treating the incident as criminal damage and has offered a £1,000 reward for any information which leads to an arrest and successful prosecution.
