Solemn lesson into the horrors of the Holocaust
3:30pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
YOUNGSTERS from schools in Tendring spent a day with a Holocaust survivor as part of a special event at Essex Univesity.
The university hosted the event to teach students about the atrocity, which saw six million Jews killed by the Nazis during the Second World War.
Schools have been asked to come up with creative ways to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in the UK and each project will be presented during Holocaust Memorial Week in January.
Survivor Frank Bright spoke to children from Tendring Technology College at the Wivenhoe campus before they split into groups to work on their projects.
Mr Bright’s family fled the Nazis to Czechoslovakia before they were interned and taken to a concentration camp, where his parents were killed.
He worked as a slave labourer until he was liberated. Mr Bright has since lived in London and Canada, before settling in Suffolk.
