Clacton: Crucial crew event provides life-saving tips for the elderly

RESIDENTS packed into a special event in Clacton to pick up potentially life-saving safety advice.
Nearly 200 people attended the Tendring Crucial Crew event at Clacton’s Princes Theatre on Tuesday.
It brought groups and organisations together from across the district to highlight dangers faced in everyday life and give residents tips.
Essex fire and rescue were joined by Trading Standards, Community Voluntary Services Tendring, Essex Police, Essex Carers Support and Tendring Council, among others.
And the event, designed for elderly people in the area, has been hailed a huge success.
Tendring Council’s health and community safety cabinet member Lynda McWilliams said she was delighted with the turnout.
“They found out much more about subjects such as emergency planning for floods, cold weather, hot weather; fire safety, personal safety, rogue traders, and what to do with callers at the door,” she said.
“What they took home with them today could literally save lives, or prevent someone being conned out of their life savings.
“It was the second Crucial Crew for older people - having run many events aimed at youngsters over the years - and I hope it will become an annual event.”
