Frinton: Sand sculpture destroyed by "mindless morons"
3:00pm Saturday 28th September 2013 in News
A COUNCIL boss has slammed “mindless morons” who wrecked a stunning sand sculpture in Frinton just one day after it was completed.
The sculpture was created by world-renowned artist Nicola Wood and was filmed by BBC cameras as part of a TV series on the history of Frinton, due to air next year.
But vandals have already destroyed the spectacular sculpture.
It was completed on Tuesday afternoon and found in ruins the following morning.
Tendring Council facilitated the sculpture for the BBC, moving 40 tonnes of sand from the beach onto the Greensward for Nicola to use.
The council will be offering a £1,000 reward for information which leads to an arrest and conviction.
Council leader Peter Halliday said: “It was a fantastic piece of art and a great attraction for the town, but these mindless morons have ruined it already.
“They have smashed it to bits, it is right back to the pile of sand it was to start with.
“As far as we are concerned this is criminal damage. They may have thought it was just a bit of fun but we are ready to prosecute."
