Clacton air show up for top award
6:00pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
CLACTON’S biggest event of the year has made it through to the finals of the Essex Tourism and Hospitality Awards.
The town’s air show is one of three spectacles that are competing for the honours in the best event or festival category.
It is up against Street Diversions by Chelmsford City Events and Hylands House’s Fright Night event, which is also in Chelmsford.
The awards, which will take place at Boreham House in Chelmsford on October 23, are staged to celebrate excellence in tourism and hospitality right across the county.
Alan Goggin, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for tourism, said: “The council is very proud to put on a free event like this at virtually no cost to the taxpayer and we had around 140,000 people attend the show over August 22 and 23.
“A huge amount of work is put into the organisation of the event by a very small team at the council and other volunteers from the authority all pull together to make it work over the run-up and the show itself.
“We are up against two events which have been put on in a city but it just goes to show that Tendring punches well above its weight.”
Mr Goggin added that plans are already underway for next year’s air show.
