Consultation deadline for light switch-off is extended
2:00pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
THE deadline for people to have their say on controversial plans to switch off streetlights in Tendring has been extended.
A consultation exercise by County Hall was due to end this Friday.
The deadline has now been put back a month after Tendring Council bosses pleaded for more time.
Almost three quarters of the district's lights will be switched off between midnight and 5am if the proposals get the go-ahead.
The blackout is due to be introduced in Tendring from New Year's Day.
The county council says the move will save energy and money, as well as cutting down in light pollution.
Some district councillors have backed the money-saving measure but others have voiced concerns.
Tendring Council leader Peter Halliday is urging the public and town and parish councils to complete a survey on Tendring Council's website before the new October 27 deadline. The survey is at tendringdc.gov.uk.
