Walton trail inspiration from Munich trip

WALTON representatives have returned from a conference in Germany buzzing with ideas on how to boost the town’s walking trails scheme.
Several themed walking trails running through Walton were launched in May in a bid to bring more visitors into the area.
Last week trail coordinators displayed a presentation of the Walton project at the world-renowned Walk21 conference in Munich.
Walton trails project manager Sara Hayes said: “We were looking for ways to move the trail project forward and it was suggested we should submit something for the conference.
“It was accepted and we travelled over to make a presentation. It was a thrill to be representing our trails at such a big event and it was a great opportunity to publicise the project further afield and to the wider walking community.
“It went very well and from speaking to others we got a lot of inspiration and ideas on how to further our own project.
“There is a lot of potential there and we want to keep it going to carry on improving the area.”
The trails scheme was launched in May by the Walton Forum community group using a £33,000 grant from Essex County Council.
It includes specially signed walking routes, including a Second World War trail, as well as routes exploring historical sites and wildlife and a special trail for youngsters.
Some of the ideas to boost the trail scheme include organised night walks.
