Mobility scooters won't be banned, councillor says
10:00am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
TOWN councillors say they are not seeking to ban mobility scooters from Frinton pavements.
Members had originally agreed to investigate the possibility of introducing a bylaw banning the scooters from pavements at a crime and disorder working party meeting in August.
But they have decided not to pursue a ban and said mobility scooters would always be welcome on the Frinton pavements.
Mayor Iris Johnson said: “I refute any suggestion that we, as a council, wish to ban the use of mobility scooters.
“We are all aware that these scooters are a source of independence for their users and have given a new lease of life to many.
“The town council would like to see a constraint on the speed of them, as they are being used in conjunction with pedestrians.
“We also consider that some form of insurance cover would be a sensible idea in case of further accidents."
