Thames Coastguard received a number of 999 calls at 7.05pm on Monday reporting a group of people waving for help, in the water east of Clacton Pier.
Clacton RNLI’s D Class inshore lifeboat and the Clacton Coastguard team were sent to help.
Before they arrived they were brought ashore by a member of the public.
