A WRITER was thrilled to see his first published novel displayed in a Frinton book store.
Author Matt Willis, 36, recently completed Daedalus and the Deep, a sea monster mystery tale based on a real-life encounter.
And Matt, who grew up in Great Oakley and went to school at Frinton’s then-named Tendring High School, has now seen his dream come true after the novel hit the shelves of Connaught Avenue store Caxton Books.
The book is based on the crew of a navy ship named the HMS Daedalus, who claim to have seen a giant sea monster pass their boat in 1848.
Matt said: “The story of HMS Daedalus and the sea serpent intrigued me greatly - as soon as I heard about it I knew I wanted to write a novel based on the sighting.
“A clash between a sailing ship and a mysterious creature unknown to science was a fascinating thing to explore, as well as a great basis for an adventure story.”
