Jaywick: Dangerous dog put down after string of attacks
12:00pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
A DANGEROUS dog has been seized and put down after a string of violent attacks on people and pooches around Jaywick.
Dog-owner Hazel Cairns, of Triumph Avenue, Jaywick, saw her bichon frise Rosie attacked by the other dog, which was running loose in the area without a collar.
The Staffy cross breed left Hazel’s pooch badly injured after the attack on August 16.
Her pets were also attacked by the same dog in May, and a host of other owners in the area have reported similar assaults.
The police were called to investigate the latest attack and tracked down the dog's owners.
Officers visited the owners with Tendring Council’s dog wardens, and the animal was handed over to them voluntarily.
It has now been put down by wardens as a last resort.
Hazel said: “There are a lot of dog owners in this area and so many of them have had trouble with this. It has attacked and bitten a lot of dogs and even owners.
“Last time it happened I tried everything to try to get some action and it is a shame it has taken another attack, but it is better late than never."
