Bogus beggars are conning shoppers
6:00pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
POLICE are set to enforces around-the-clock dispersal orders after it was revealed bogus beggars are conning shoppers out of cash.
Police say the fraudsters - usually armed with dog to tug at the heartstrings of passers-by - are taking money off shoppers before returning to the comfort of their homes.
PC Gary Coe said: “These bogus beggars are dotting themselves around the town and seafront and usually arm themselves with a dog to tug at the hearts of passers-by.
“They live in houses in the town.
“It’s ironic and sad the unfortunate victims of this scandalous crime are the genuinely homeless people who are desperate for shelter and food."
The police and Tendring Council will enforce an around-the-clock dispersal order to move on people congregating in the town or the seafront.
