Clacton church welcomes new vicar
12:00pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
A NEW vicar has been appointed at one of Clacton’s busiest churches.
The Rev Peter Kane has taken over at St James’ Church, in Ellis Road.
Mr Kane was born in London in 1972. He read music at King’s College London and the Royal College of Music, before entering the ordained ministry.
He served as a lay worker at a Methodist church in central London, followed by more than four years in the administration of HM Prison Service.
Mr Kane trained for the Methodist ministry in Cambridge and served as a Methodist minister in Southport and Newham before transferring to the Anglican ministry in 2008 through the Chelmsford Diocese.
After a further year of study in Oxford, he moved to Chichester and served in a parish there before taking up his current post in Clacton.
He said: “It is great to be joining the Parish of St James, Clacton, in this our centenary year.
“Over the years, the good people of St James’ and St Christopher’s, Jaywick, have maintained a faithful Christian witness to the town.
“It is my hope and prayer that we will continue to serve the local community effectively in the name of Christ.”
He added that people will be welcomed warmly to all services and events at the church.
The church had been without a permanent vicar since the Rev Anthony Spooner retired two years ago.
