2,000 day-trippers descend upon Clacton for beach party

MORE than 2,000 visitors from Sierra Leone descended upon Clacton for a beach party.
Seafront staff at Clacton helped to ensure that an unexpectedly large party for the day-trippers went off at the weekend.
The party, who were mainly Sierra Leonians, arrived by coach just before Saturday lunchtime and set up on the beach.
They provided their own musical entertainment and partied until around 7pm when they returned home.
Seafront Warden Mark Thompson said that the visitors enjoyed their day on the beach - although it was far from the sunniest day of the summer.
Nick Turner, Tendring Council’s cabinet member responsible for the seafront, said it was yet another busy weekend on Tendring’s beaches.
“There were lots of visitors again, especially on Saturday with the party for 2,000.
“The staff coped extremely well and it all went off without incident,” he said.
“Despite the large numbers on the beach our staff did not have as many issues to deal with as on previous weekends.”
