150,000 flight fans expected to flock to air show

AN unprecedented 150,000 flight fanatics could descend upon Clacton for this year’s air show.
This year the annual spectacular, which takes place today and tomorrow, is expected to draw massive crowds due to the cancellation of air shows in Southend and Lowestoft.
Greater Anglia will be running extra train services to the town on both days of the show and a park and ride scheme has been set up from Clacton Factory Outlet.
The air show is estimated to bring in more than £4million to Tendring’s economy each year and is expected to give the town an even bigger boost this year.
Alan Goggin, Tendring Council’s cabinet member, said that last year the event attracted 120,000 people over two days.
“The fact that we are the only free air show on the East coast naturally means we will see a lot more people coming in,” he said.
“As with most of the British tourism industry we are dependent on the weather.
“If everything slots into place we there could be as many as 150,000 people."
