Walton: Pensioner takes leap of faith to support lifeboat
9:00am Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
A THRILL-SEEKING pensioner leapt from a mountain in a daring tandem paraglide to raise cash for Walton’s RNLI lifesavers.
Joan Davies, 78, stepped up to the mark in Turkey, launching herself into the air from a height of 6,550ft.
She flew through the air while strapped only to a trained instructor and a lightweight paragliding harness.
It is the third time Walton resident Joan has taken to the skies, and the second time she has done it for charity. She raised £500 for Walton RNLI.
She said: “The first time I did it I just thought I’d like to give it a go. I worked myself up to doing it and absolutely loved it.
“It’s a beautiful view and a wonderful experience. A real thrill.
“Every little bit helps for the RNLI. They rely on donations and they were really happy pleased to get the cheque.”
