FUNDING is hard to come by for the Clacton and District Occupational Workshop Society.

But this year the charity will be the lucky beneficiary of cash raised at the Clacton Carnival.

And for trustee Chris Simons the help cannot come soon enough.

“Our costs are £25,000 a year, but we struggle with funding as no-one wants to give to charities for the disabled or those with learning difficulties,” he said.

“Everybody involved in the charity from trustees to volunteers are all unpaid.

“We get no funding whatsoever."

Cadows is a charity for adults with physical and learning disabilities.

It sees the clients spend three days in the workshops learning skills and meeting friends.

“We have a woodwork shop - clients are taught how to make wooden garden furniture like wishing wells and bird tables," Chris added.

The money from this year’s Clacton Carnival procession will help fund insulation for the charity's tin roof.
